Entering the Base
Please pay attention to all Air Show signs and the directions of event personnel who will help guide you to and from the Air Show.
The Oak Forest and Berkeley Gates will be open to the public May 20-21 at 8 a.m. The Oak Forest Gate will be open to inbound traffic until 2 p.m. The Berkley Gate will be open to inbound traffic until 6 p.m.
Parking On Base
Parking areas will be divided by color and letter. Shuttles will stop in each color zone every 20-30 minutes. The larger color zones will have bleachers and port-a-johns available for guest use.
Handicap accessible parking areas will also be available. Individuals requesting handicapped parking must have state-approved handicapped placards.
Parking Off Base
For spectators choosing to park off base, there will be parking areas available near Greenwood Middle School and Meadow Lane Elementary School. Spectators parking off base at these locations will proceed through a pedestrian gate on to the base and will be able to either walk to the event or take an on-base shuttle.
Wait times and Congestion
With more than 100,000 visitors expected at the Air Show, it's important for everyone to come prepared and to be patient. Pack a cooler with water and snacks to leave in your car for when you return to leave and expect to wait 30-60 minutes to get off of the installation. Our parking managers are working hard to plan for increased flow and to move cars quickly, but SJAFB isn't designed for massive crowds. It's designed for security and safety, so bear with us as we try to get everyone safely in and out of the show.
Wayne County offers everything from choice hotels to outdoor campsites. Book yours ASAP for the best rates and availability.
Dining + Attractions
There are plenty of concessions on site at the Air Show, but if you plan to come the night prior, stay an extra day, or want to pick up breakfast or dinner on your way, our dining options are excellent. Because of the potential for heavy traffic, we recommend packing snacks in the car, being patient, and stopping for food before you hit the road to let the traffic level out. OR, better yet, stay overnight and enjoy what Wayne County has to offer.
